Description
Collagen is the most important fibrous component of skin, bones, tendons, cartilage, ligaments, blood vessels, and teeth. Dr. Oldhaver's collagen is derived from collagen hydrolysate, which is more bioavailable and consists of individual collagen peptides that, unlike other proteins, carry no risk of allergens.
What is the significance of collagen for the skin?
Collagen is a protein and the main component of human skin. It consists of mesh-like structures that connect to each other, giving the skin great firmness. This fiber network of collagen is also referred to as the supporting framework of the connective tissue, which ensures the elasticity of the skin. Furthermore, collagen stores moisture and supports the regeneration of skin cells. In this context, the body produces collagen daily. However, the production of new fibers decreases with age, and the proportion of collagen in the skin continuously declines. This process is further intensified by UV light, poor nutrition, stress, nicotine, and other factors. As a result, the skin loses firmness and elasticity. The consequence: the skin tissue 'sags' and wrinkles form. One can counteract this process through the oral intake of collagen. This was proven in a very recent double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled human study from 2013. According to this study, skin elasticity improved significantly in older women through the intake of collagen.
