Dr. Oldhaver's Marine Mineral Capsules contain Aquamin, a multimineral powder with bioactive calcium as well as 72 other trace elements. These include, among others, iodine, selenium, zinc, cobalt, copper, and chromium. This raw material is obtained from the red algae Lithothamnium calcareum, which grows in the sea off the coast of Iceland. This marine red algae has the ability to absorb and accumulate the nutrients and minerals present in the mineral-rich, clean seawater. After the growth phase, it sinks to the seabed and mineralizes there. After harvesting, the algae are dried and then ground into powder.
Natural source of calcium
In addition to calcium, the Marine Mineral Complex contains over 72 other trace elements. Even if the specific quantities of the individual elements are small, the unique composition makes the Marine Mineral Complex something very special. This creates a synergy effect that significantly improves the absorption of calcium compared to conventional calcium products. The bioavailability of the calcium and other ingredients is further increased by the fact that the molecules of the resulting powder have a particularly porous surface. This makes Lithothamnium calcareum a plant-based mineral source of high-quality calcium.
Why is calcium so important?
Calcium is the most significant mineral in the body in terms of quantity. It is required in particular as a building block for bones and teeth, where it provides density and strength. Furthermore, calcium is involved in the transmission of impulses in muscles and nerves, intracellular signal transmission, and the stabilization of cell membranes. In addition, calcium plays an important role in blood coagulation. Those who have an unbalanced diet and consume few calcium-rich foods have an increased risk of calcium deficiency. This primarily affects children in the growth phase, pregnant women, women before and after menopause, the elderly, and people with lactose intolerance.
